Built from nothing, on purpose
Patrick Montgomery left the Army's 1st Ranger Battalion and started KC Cattle Company in 2016 with, by its own account, no land, no cattle and no ranching background. The operation now runs on several hundred acres near Weston, Missouri, and frames its purpose around creating work for veterans. It sells nationwide and keeps a retail counter with posted hours at Parkville, north-west of Kansas City.
The range is broader than a steak list. Alongside ribeyes, filets and tomahawks it makes Wagyu hot dogs, brats and sausages, which is a more serious commercial decision than it sounds: whole-animal selling is what makes a small beef operation viable, since a carcass is mostly not steak and the trim has to go somewhere better than the bin.
What the label leaves out
The beef is sold as American Wagyu, and that is as specific as the public disclosure gets. No breed generation is published anywhere: not fullblood, not purebred, not F1, not a percentage. Since American Wagyu is not a defined or regulated term, that leaves genuinely open how much Wagyu is in the animal.
This is the ordinary case rather than a scandal, and most sellers using the phrase disclose no more. It is still the reason this listing carries no breed badge, and it is the question to ask if you are comparing prices against a producer that does state a generation. A first-generation cross and a fullblood are different products, and only one of the two sellers is telling you which you are buying.
