WagyuSpot ("WagyuSpot," "we," "us") operates the directory at wagyuspot.com, a free informational guide to Wagyu restaurants, online retailers, and farms in the United States. This policy explains the limited information that is handled when you visit the site, who processes it, and the choices you have. It applies to wagyuspot.com only, and not to any other website you reach by following a link from us.
The short version
In plain terms: WagyuSpot has no user accounts, sign-up or contact forms, newsletter, comments, or payment features. We do not set first-party cookies or use browser local storage. We do use limited, cookieless site analytics when that service is enabled, and we record clicks on selected outbound buttons. We do not use this information for targeted advertising or to follow you across unrelated websites. The sections below describe the technical data involved.
Information we collect
We do not ask for account, profile, contact-form, or payment information because the site has no such features. The automatic technical data described below, including an IP address processed by infrastructure providers, may be treated as personal information under some laws.
Automatic server log data. Like virtually every website, our hosting provider records standard technical information each time a page or file is requested. This log data can include your Internet Protocol (IP) address, an approximate city or country derived from that IP address, the date and time of the request, the page or file requested, the page that referred you, and your browser and operating system type. This information is generated at the server and network level. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with any other information about you.
Analytics and outbound-click records
Site analytics. In production we may use a self-hosted instance of Umami to measure aggregate use of WagyuSpot, such as page views, referring pages, browser and device categories, approximate location, and events such as an outbound-button click. The analytics script and event endpoint are delivered through wagyuspot.com. Our implementation does not set an analytics cookie or write an analytics identifier to your browser.
Outbound clicks. When you click a tracked Website, Menu, Reserve, Shop, or Buy button, your browser sends WagyuSpot the listed entity's slug and type, the link category, and the WagyuSpot page where you clicked; the server records the event time. To reduce duplicate or automated clicks without storing a raw IP address, the server creates a shortened cryptographic hash from the available IP address, user-agent string, UTC date, and a server-side salt. If the salt is not configured, the server stores no visitor hash. The date changes every day, so a stored value is not designed to recognize the same browser across days. The raw IP address and user-agent string are not written to the outbound-click table.
How we use information
We use technical logs to deliver the site's pages, keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical problems. We use aggregate analytics and outbound-click records to understand which pages and links are useful, improve the directory, measure retailer-link performance, and identify invalid or automated traffic. We do not use this information for targeted advertising, cross-site profiling, or automated decisions about visitors, and we do not sell it.
Cookies and tracking technologies
WagyuSpot does not currently set first-party cookies, use advertising pixels, or store an analytics identifier in browser local storage. Our analytics and outbound-click features are cookieless, but they still process the limited technical and event data described above. If you follow an outbound link to another company's website, that company may use its own cookies or tracking technologies, which are governed by its privacy policy and not ours. See "Outbound links and affiliate disclosure" below.
Third-party services and sub-processors
We rely on a small number of established service providers to run the site. Each has its own privacy practices:
Vercel (hosting and content delivery). Serves the website and maintains the automatic server logs described above, which can include your IP address and an approximate location derived from it. See Vercel's privacy notice at vercel.com/legal/privacy-notice.
Neon (database hosting). Stores the directory's content and WagyuSpot's outbound-click records. Those click records contain the event fields and rotating daily hash described above, not names, account details, raw IP addresses, or a stable cross-day visitor identifier.
Umami (self-hosted analytics software). When enabled, processes the limited site-usage and event information described above. WagyuSpot reaches this service through same-origin endpoints rather than a third-party script URL.
OpenFreeMap (map tiles). On our map page (wagyuspot.com/map) only, your browser requests map data directly from OpenFreeMap so the interactive map can display. That request reveals your IP address and the map tiles requested to OpenFreeMap at the moment of connection. OpenFreeMap states that it does not use cookies or tracking technologies and does not store IP addresses in its regular server logs, but that it may temporarily enable IP logging for a security incident and uses Cloudflare for security and content delivery. If you do not open the map page, no request is made to OpenFreeMap. See openfreemap.org/privacy.
Optional browser location. The map includes a "locate me" control. It requests your browser's location only when you activate it and your browser grants permission. The position is used in the browser to center the map and show your location; WagyuSpot does not write that precise position to its database. Centering the map causes the browser to request map tiles for the viewed area from OpenFreeMap. You can deny or revoke location permission in your browser.
Fonts. The site's fonts are served from our own domain, so displaying the site's typography does not send a request to a third-party font service.
Outbound links and affiliate disclosure
WagyuSpot links out to restaurants, farms, and online retailers. Some retailer links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission on a qualifying purchase. WagyuSpot does not add a fee; the retailer controls its prices, discounts, and offer terms. This relationship does not influence which venues we list, rank, or verify. When you click an affiliate link, the destination retailer or its affiliate network may set its own cookie to credit the sale. We do not control those cookies, and we are not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of any site you reach by leaving wagyuspot.com. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any external site you visit. For more on how we make money, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
How and when we share information
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising. Visit-related technical data may be processed by the infrastructure and analytics providers listed above on our behalf. A destination website also receives the normal information your browser sends when you follow its link. We may disclose information if required by law or where necessary to protect the rights, safety, or security of WagyuSpot, our visitors, or the public.
Data retention
Automatic server logs are retained under our hosting provider's practices. Aggregate analytics and outbound-click records are retained while reasonably needed to analyze site and link performance, detect invalid traffic, and maintain historical comparisons, after which they may be deleted or aggregated. The daily outbound-click hash cannot be used by WagyuSpot to link activity across different UTC dates. We do not maintain user profiles or an account history.
Data security
The site is served over encrypted HTTPS connections, and we rely on established providers for infrastructure security. Because we do not collect accounts, payment details, or other sensitive personal information from visitors, there is no such data for us to store or expose. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
WagyuSpot is a general-audience site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly solicit profile, contact, or account information from children. The automatic technical data described in this policy can be processed when any visitor requests the site. If you believe a child has provided information directly to us, please contact us and we will address it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and similar laws in states such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah, and others. These can include the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to access, correct, or delete it, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
The visit-related information we process is the technical, analytics, and outbound-click data described above. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any right you may have, or to ask what information may relate to you, email us at hello@wagyuspot.com. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. Because we do not maintain accounts or stable visitor identifiers, we may be unable to connect a record to you without additional information, and in some cases we may not be able to verify a request.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers offer "Do Not Track" (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. WagyuSpot does not use visit data for cross-site behavioral advertising and does not sell it. Our current site behavior is therefore the same whether or not a DNT or GPC signal is present.
International visitors
WagyuSpot is operated from the United States and is intended for a U.S. audience. The limited technical data described above may be processed in the United States and in other locations where our service providers operate, subject to their applicable transfer mechanisms and terms.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add a new service provider or feature. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and post the new version here. We encourage you to review this page periodically. If we begin collecting information in a materially different way or add cookies, we will update this policy to describe the change.
