  • The ranch sells two different products off one price list: American Wagyu at $9.00 a pound hanging weight and Black Angus at $7.00. Both are its own cattle, but only the Wagyu line is the Akaushi cross, so say which one you want when you order. The order form asks you to choose between them.

Why it's listed

Broke Tree Ranch is a family ranch at the base of Petit Jean Mountain in Adona, run by Lindsey and Matt Hall, which breeds Akaushi bulls to Black Angus females and sells the resulting American Wagyu alongside a separate Black Angus line. Cattle are pasture raised and sweet feed finished for 180 to 250 days, never given growth hormones or implants, then dry aged and processed by USDA inspected Arkansas plants. Beef sells by the whole, half or quarter with individual cuts and bundles, and the ranch delivers around Hot Springs, Little Rock, Conway, Perryville and Morrilton.

01

Akaushi bulls onto Angus cows

Broke Tree Ranch sits at the base of Petit Jean Mountain at Adona and is run by Lindsey and Matt Hall. It breeds Akaushi bulls to Black Angus females and sells the resulting American Wagyu next to a separate Black Angus line, so the two are priced and described apart rather than blended.

Akaushi is the red strain of Wagyu, a different breed from the black Japanese cattle most people picture, and it is the strain most American crossbreeding programmes are built on. Cattle here are pasture raised and finished on sweet feed for between six and eight months, then dry aged.

Local, and clear about it
