Why it's listed
Morgan Ranch is a fourth-generation family cattle operation in Nebraska's Sandhills that has raised Wagyu since 1993 and supplies restaurants across the Midwest and overseas. Its own site does not state how far its cattle are removed from full-blood Japanese stock, although retailers that sell the beef describe it as F4, meaning 93 percent or more Wagyu. If the breed generation matters to you, ask before ordering. It sells beef directly online with nationwide shipping and also supplies third-party retailers.
Wagyu in the Sandhills since 1993
Morgan Ranch is a fourth-generation cattle operation at Burwell, in the Nebraska Sandhills, and has raised Wagyu since 1993, which makes it one of the longer-running Wagyu programmes in the country. The Sandhills are the largest dune formation in the western hemisphere, stabilised by grass and watered by springs from the Ogallala aquifer, and the ranch's own description of its ground is a grazing argument rather than a scenic one: abundant grass, clean water, and a climate that suits cattle.
The herd is described as at least 93 percent purebred Wagyu and USDA Breed Verified. That percentage is the useful number. Purebred and fullblood are not the same thing, and neither is the same as the F1 half-cross that most American Wagyu is, so a producer publishing where its herd sits on that scale is disclosing the fact most labels leave out.

Common questions
- Is Morgan Ranch fullblood Wagyu?
- It describes its cattle as at least 93 percent purebred Wagyu and USDA Breed Verified rather than fullblood, which means 100 percent. Purebred is a high bar and a different one, and the ranch states its figure instead of leaving the reader to assume.
