This listing's current published materials advertise Wagyu, but the offering does not meet our full verification standard for provenance. It carries no authenticity badge; undisclosed details remain explicitly unverified.
Why it's listed
A Beverly Hills steakhouse whose entire menu is built on one producer's beef: 100 percent grass-fed Wagyu from First Light Farms of New Zealand, butchered in house every morning and served warm red. The steak list runs a 10 oz centre-cut picanha, an 11 oz New York strip, a 13 to 14 oz ribeye and a 22 to 25 oz rustic ribeye, with petite strip and two further ribeye weights on some nights, and the starters carry steak tartare two ways and a tenderloin carpaccio. First Light describes a decade of crossbreeding from Tajima genetics to produce cattle that thrive on pasture, and states no breed generation, so the sourcing is named and traceable without clearing a breed standard.

“Steak restaurants exclusively serving 100% grass-fed Wagyu from First Light Farms.”
matusteak.com “Matū was inspired by the best-tasting beef we've ever had. 100% grass-fed Wagyu produced by First Light Farms of New Zealand. The Wagyu cattle are fed only grass, no grain.”
matusteak.com “They wanted great beef, so they decided on Tajima (Black) Wagyu genetics, but they knew full-blood Wagyu animals would not thrive eating grass on pastures. They spent almost a decade crossbreeding to create cattle that fit the bill.”

Common questions
- Does Matū serve real Wagyu?
- Its own current menu advertises Wagyu, and that claim was read directly on August 13, 2026. What the menu does not do is say which Wagyu: no prefecture, grade, breed status or producer is published, so the sourcing cannot be checked from outside. That is a gap in what is written down rather than a suggestion that anything is wrong with the beef, and plenty of kitchens buy carefully without printing the details.
- What kind of Wagyu does Matū serve?
- Its menu discloses First Light Farms. Each of those is taken from the venue's own current materials rather than from a review or a listing site, and the evidence behind it is quoted further down this page.
- Why is Matū listed without a Wagyu badge?
- Because a badge here means the sourcing was checked, not that the food is good. This listing is published because the venue genuinely advertises Wagyu on its own current material, and it carries no badge because that material does not say which Wagyu. If the venue publishes the prefecture, grade, breed status or producer, the listing can move.
