Why it's listed

A Tokyo-inspired Japanese tavern on Upper King Street from the Indigo Road Hospitality Group, opened October 2025 under chef Masatomo Hamaya. The kitchen is built around robata grilling, with sections for vegetables, small plates, skewers, noodles and hand rolls. Two dishes are built on A5 beef: a Wagyu Gyoza with uni and ponzu at $21 for three pieces, and an A-5 Beef Tartare hand roll with trout roe, Tokyo scallion and crispy chili. The menu rotates seasonally.

Authenticity flags

  • Both beef dishes are described as A5, but the menu does not name a prefecture, farm or brand, so you cannot tell from the menu which Japanese region the beef comes from. Ask the kitchen if that matters to you.
  • The A5 beef here appears as a filling and a tartare rather than as a steak. If you are looking for a Wagyu cut cooked over the robata, the beef skewer on the grill list is short rib and is not described as Wagyu.
