Why it's listed

Katami is an open sushi-, wagyu-, and sake-focused Japanese restaurant in Houston's Montrose from James Beard-nominated chef Manabu Horiuchi. Its dedicated Wagyu menu lists multiple A5 Japanese offerings with full provenance: Ohmi (Omi) A5 New York strip, Takamori 'Drunken' A5 tenderloin, and Kagoshima A5 prepared shabu-shabu, yakiniku, cold soba and yakimeshi. A generic "A5 Wagyu" nigiri and a Texas (American) Wagyu salad appear without complete provenance. No Kobe beef is on the current menu despite the venue's Kobe registration (no. 1778). Verified on the branded and prefecture A5 Japanese offerings.

Common questions

Does KATAMI serve real Wagyu?
Yes, and it says where the beef comes from. KATAMI in Houston, TX publishes enough detail on its own materials to identify the Wagyu it sells, which is the standard this directory calls verified, last checked on July 18, 2026. That means a named Japanese brand or prefecture with its grade, an American breed status with a named producer, or an Australian producer with a marbling score.
What kind of Wagyu does KATAMI serve?
Its menu discloses Omi (Ohmi) A5, Takamori 'Drunken' Wagyu A5, Kagoshima A5 and Texas Wagyu. Each of those is taken from the venue's own current materials rather than from a review or a listing site, and the evidence behind it is quoted further down this page.
Is the Wagyu at KATAMI Kobe beef?
It is licensed to serve Kobe and was not listing it when we last looked, on July 18, 2026. This venue does appear on the official Kobe registry, but Kobe was not on the menu at that check, so no Kobe badge is shown. Licensed rooms drop it between allocations and bring it back, so this can change without notice and is worth asking about directly.
How was KATAMI verified?
By reading the venue's own current material, its menu, its site or its ordering system, and quoting the line that names the beef. Reviews, aggregator copies and press mentions are not accepted as the source, because they go stale silently. Verification is assisted by AI and every claim is stored with the page it came from, last confirmed on July 18, 2026.
