01

A wholesale brand, which is why you meet it on a menu

WinterFrost is one of the beef brands marketed by Greater Omaha Packing, and it is sold through a wholesale programme rather than a consumer storefront. That single fact explains its shape in this directory: it appears on published restaurant menus and almost nowhere in the retailer pillar, because there is no consumer checkout to appear in.

For a diner, the practical consequence is that the brand name on a menu is a supply-chain disclosure. It tells you which packer's programme the beef came from, which is more than most American Wagyu listings disclose.

02

A Tajima sire line crossed to American cows

The brand states that it crosses Tajima Black Wagyu bulls with select American cows, and describes the result as carrying 100% Tajima Black Wagyu lineage. Read carefully, that phrase describes the sire line, not the animal: a cross of a Wagyu bull and an American cow is by definition not 100% Wagyu.

Cattle are described as born and raised in the United States and fed vegetarian whole grains. There is no USDA Wagyu grade, so American Wagyu brands are graded on the USDA scale or on their own internal one, and WinterFrost's published materials describe a single-grade consistency programme rather than a Japanese-style score.

03

WinterFrost and Zabiha Halal are two different brands

Greater Omaha Packing markets a separate line called Zabiha Halal Beef, listed alongside WinterFrost as a distinct brand with its own processing description. Neither WinterFrost's own site nor the packer's brand page states that WinterFrost carries halal certification.

This distinction is worth stating because it travels badly. A menu line reading "WinterFrost Halal" merges two separate brand names from the same company, and a supplier brand name printed on a steakhouse menu is not a certification statement about the kitchen that serves it. Anyone eating to a halal requirement should confirm with the venue rather than infer it from a supplier name.

Common questions

Is WinterFrost Wagyu halal?
The brand makes no halal claim on its own pages, and Greater Omaha Packing lists Zabiha Halal Beef as a separate brand from WinterFrost. That is not the same as saying a given cut was not halal processed, so treat a halal requirement as a question for the venue and the processor rather than something a brand name settles.
Is WinterFrost fullblood Wagyu?
No. The brand describes crossing Tajima Black Wagyu bulls with select American cows. The 100% Tajima lineage claim describes the sire line, not the percentage of Wagyu genetics in the animal.
Can I buy WinterFrost directly?
Not that we have found. The brand publishes a wholesale programme and no consumer storefront, which is why it appears on restaurant menus in this directory rather than among retailers.
