Why it's listed
Prime & Providence is a live-fire contemporary steakhouse and oyster bar in West Des Moines, built around a 15-foot open hearth and two coal-fired ovens. It runs one of the most serious Japanese Wagyu programs in the region: a dedicated Wagyu & Caviar reserve menu listing individual A5 striploins by origin (Kobe, Omi, Shimane, Kagoshima, Takamori, Bushu, Shinshu and Namiki) plus two tasting flights, the Samurai Flight and the Emperor's Reserve Flight, which pours Kobe alongside Omi and Takamori. It is the only restaurant serving genuine Kobe beef in Iowa. Open since 2024 and named to national best-steakhouse lists.

Common questions
- Does Prime & Providence serve real Wagyu?
- Yes, and it says where the beef comes from. Prime & Providence in West Des Moines, IA publishes enough detail on its own materials to identify the Wagyu it sells, which is the standard this directory calls verified, last checked on July 22, 2026. That means a named Japanese brand or prefecture with its grade, an American breed status with a named producer, or an Australian producer with a marbling score.
- What kind of Wagyu does Prime & Providence serve?
- Its menu discloses Kobe A5, Omi A5, Shimane A5 and Kagoshima A5. Each of those is taken from the venue's own current materials rather than from a review or a listing site, and the evidence behind it is quoted further down this page.
- Is the Wagyu at Prime & Providence Kobe beef?
- Yes, on both counts that matter. This venue appears on the official Kobe Beef Marketing and Distribution Promotion Association registry, and Kobe was on its verified menu when last checked on July 22, 2026. Both are required here: a registry listing alone is permission to buy Kobe, not proof that any is being served.
- How was Prime & Providence verified?
- By reading the venue's own current material, its menu, its site or its ordering system, and quoting the line that names the beef. Reviews, aggregator copies and press mentions are not accepted as the source, because they go stale silently. Verification is assisted by AI and every claim is stored with the page it came from, last confirmed on July 22, 2026.
