Why it's listed
Catch LA is the West Hollywood dining room of the Catch group, on Melrose Avenue, with a sushi and steak programme built around fish flown from Toyosu Market. Its Wagyu Hot Rock is cooked tableside from 2oz and offers three named Japanese beefs by prefecture: Kobe from Hyogo at 68 an ounce, Olive Beef from Kagawa at 55, and Snow Beef from Hokkaido at 49, with a flight of all three at 85 a person. A wagyu gyoza names Miyazaki, and a miso wagyu flatiron names Stone Axe Farms.
Authenticity flags
- This restaurant's Wagyu Hot Rock lists 'A5 Kobe Beef, Hyogo Prefecture, LIC #1030' at 68 dollars an ounce. Licence 1030 belongs to Catch Steak at 88 9th Avenue in New York, a different restaurant in a different state which has since closed, and the official Kobe registry holds no entry for this Melrose Avenue address. Ask which beef you are being served before paying a Kobe price. The Olive Beef from Kagawa, the Snow Beef from Hokkaido and the Miyazaki on the same list each name their own prefecture.

Common questions
- Does Catch LA serve real Wagyu?
- Its own current menu advertises Wagyu, and that claim was read directly on August 20, 2026. What the menu does not do is say which Wagyu: no prefecture, grade, breed status or producer is published, so the sourcing cannot be checked from outside. That is a gap in what is written down rather than a suggestion that anything is wrong with the beef, and plenty of kitchens buy carefully without printing the details.
- What kind of Wagyu does Catch LA serve?
- Its menu discloses Olive Beef (Kagawa Prefecture), Snow Beef (Hokkaido Prefecture), Miyazaki and A5 Japanese. Each of those is taken from the venue's own current materials rather than from a review or a listing site, and the evidence behind it is quoted further down this page.
- Why is Catch LA listed without a Wagyu badge?
- Because a badge here means the sourcing was checked, not that the food is good. This listing is published because the venue genuinely advertises Wagyu on its own current material, and it carries no badge because that material does not say which Wagyu. If the venue publishes the prefecture, grade, breed status or producer, the listing can move.
